ArmInfo. The EU notes positive trends in the field of justice in Armenia in the post-revolutionary period. Head of the EU delegation in Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Switalski told to journalists on February 26.
According to the Ambassador, EU partners are very serious about reforming the justice system. The government of Armenia also stated that reforms in the field are priorities for them. In this regard, counterparts from the EU are in constant contact with the Armenian side, and have already made proposals with corresponding proposals. At the same time, according to the diplomat, in Armenia, compared with the pre-revolutionary period, the situation in the sector of justice compares favorably. "There is a place for criticism, but the EU believes in the government's readiness to reform the system. Here, of course, the opinion of citizens is important, because they are the final judges, " Piotr Switalski said. According to him, according to various studies, there is an increase in confidence among the Armenian population regarding the judicial system of the republic.
As Ambassador Switalski noted, the EU is committed to the idea that in the new Armenia, the justice system should have full transparency and absolute adherence to European standards of justice.
As for the transitional justice, Piotr Switalski noted that only Armenians should take a decision on this issue. <Only they need to understand if they need it and to what extent. The experience of other countries shows that outside intervention is not so useful>, the Ambassador said.
At the same time, as Piotr Switalski pointed out, such experience exists in the world and even in Europe. "However, if, for example, in the Balkans, it worked, it's not a fact that it works here," the Ambassador said, stressing that the use of transitional justice works efficiently if it is aimed at the future, and is part of general reforms. To note, earlier, the Acting PM spoke about the need to implement the transitional justice system in Armenia in the context of a large-scale anti-corruption struggle unfolded by the new government of the country.
