ArmInfo.Representative of Armenia to the ECHR Gevorg Kostanyan submitted most of the cases on the events of March 1, 2008 to the European Court of Human Rights. On February 22, the Minister of Justice of Armenia Artak Zeyanlyan told journalists about this.
He noted that in spite of the fact that during the hearings in the National Assembly, the representatives of the opposition were against it and also supported their objections with facts, but they never interfered in these cases. "Despite the fact that we had the authority to make unilateral statements on behalf of Armenia, we did not interfere in this process so that the truth would triumph," he said. According to the Minister, the rumors that the Armenian authorities are trying to exert pressure on the European Court of Human Rights are not true. "We are waiting for the previous authorities to lose the rest of the cases," Zeynalyan stressed.
To the question of journalists about whether it is true that Minister Zeynalyan visited the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan in prison, the latter did not confirm or deny the information. "Since the penitentiary institution is under my jurisdiction, I can visit all the prisoners and get acquainted with the conditions of their detention. But all this information is confidential and not subject to publicity," the Minister of Justice of Armenia stressed. To note, the second President of Armenia was arrested in the framework of the March 1, 2008 case. Robert Kocharyan is accused of overthrowing the constitutional order in Armenia, as well as receiving a bribe on a large scale.
