ArmInfo.As part of the IPA CIS international observation mission, Armenia will take part in the short-term monitoring of the parliamentary elections in Moldova.
As the press service of the IPA CIS informed ArmInfo, in accordance with the invitation of the Central Election Commission of Moldova, a group of international observers from the IPA CIS was formed to carry out long-term and short-term monitoring of the preparation and conduct of elections of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the source, deputy of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bektas Beknazarov was appointed the coordinator of the group. The group includes 35 international observers, representing seven states - participants of the Assembly (Azerbaijan Republic, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan). Among them are MPs, representatives of the highest legislative bodies, as well as members of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council and experts from the International Institute for Monitoring the Development of Democracy, Parliamentary and Observance of the Election Rights of Citizens of the IPA CIS Member States (IPMD IPA CIS).
The group of observers from the IPA CIS operates in the mission of observers from the CIS. The total number of members of the mission, headed by First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Viktor Guminsky, is 106 people.
In the period from January 30 to February 1, 2019, within the framework of the long-term monitoring of elections, the Republic of Moldova was visited by a group of observers from the IPA CIS from among the staff and experts of the IIMDD IPA CIS. During the visit, observers met with representatives of the Moldovan CEC, familiarized themselves with the work of the district electoral councils, and visited the campaign headquarters of political parties and independent candidates participating in elections in Chisinau and the regions of Moldova. Based on the results of long-term observation, a report of the expert group on long-term election monitoring was prepared.
In the period of short-term monitoring, meetings will be held with the leadership of the Central Election Commission of Moldova, representatives of political parties and electoral blocs participating in the elections, as well as members of observation missions of other international organizations. On Election Day, international observers from the IPA CIS will follow up on individual polling stations at polling stations in Chisinau, localities in a number of regions of the country, as well as at foreign polling stations located in Baku, Minsk, Moscow and St. Petersburg.
