ArmInfo. Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security Affairs Andranik Kocharyan met with members of the OSCE delegation and the Geneva Center for Democratic Control of the Armed Forces.
Welcoming the guests, Kocharyan expressed the hope that the long-term cooperation with the structures will continue in the business plane.
The chairman of the commission presented the delegation with political and constitutional changes of the last months in Armenia, as a result of which the RA passed to parliamentary government. In this context, he noted the need for a number of legislative amendments to exercise efficient parliamentary control over the executive power, in particular, the security forces.
A. Kocharyan on this issue considers it important to involve qualified and trained experts in the work of the commission, which, in his opinion, the OSCE and the Geneva Center for Democratic Control of the Armed Forces can help.
"Being very familiar with the problems of the field, I would like to form parliamentary control mechanisms capable of controlling security forces so that they act only within the law and any violation of human rights would simply be a memory of the past," the commission chairman said.
Members of the delegation expressed their support for the training of experts and the localization of parliamentary oversight mechanisms. Stressing the importance of expanding and deepening cooperation with the commission, the parties expressed their readiness to formulate a working agenda and also sign a new memorandum of cooperation.
