ArmInfo. The Armenian Court of Appeal upheld the decision to extend the arrest of the second RA President Robert Kocharyan, accused of overthrowing the constitutional order.
The verdict of the court was not influenced by Robert Kocharyan's many hours of explanation regarding the events of March 1, 2008, which were heard during court hearings.
To note, on January 18, the court of general jurisdiction granted the request of the Special Investigation Service of Armenia (SIS) to extend the arrest of Robert Kocharyan. The court also rejected Kocharyan's advocate's request to change the measure of restraint against the second president for the written undertaking not to leave the place.
The second president of the country was arrested on July 27, 2018 by a court of general jurisdiction. However, on August 13, the Court of Appeal issued a decision on the release of Kocharyan on the basis of the immunity of the second president. After that, the verdict was appealed to the Court of Cassation, from where it was again sent to the Court of Appeal. On December 7, the Court of Appeal decided to arrest Kocharyan.
