The Head of the Parliament thanked the ambassador for his significant role in expanding Armenia-EU cooperation, expressing his readiness to develop and deepen relations.
Mirzoyan assured that the newly elected National Assembly will show decisiveness in implementing and achieving success in the initiatives and programs that have been launched. Referring to the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement of the Republic of Armenia- The EU, the NA President noted that this is an important condition for promoting reforms in Armenia and partnership with the EU based on a common value system. The head of parliament in this matter hopes for the assistance of the ambassador.
The head of the legislative power noted that the Armenian side attaches importance to the beginning of the dialogue on the simplification of the EU visa regime for the citizens of Armenia. "I believe that this will also be a serious achievement and will bring relations to a new level of development," said Mirzoyan.
The NA President expressed hope that from now on the cooperation with the EU will become closer - in deepening democracy, protecting human rights, cooperating with civil society, enhancing the role and oversight functions of parliament, judicial and electoral reforms and in other areas.The Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Armenia, Ambassador Switalski, congratulating A. Mirzoyan on taking office, stressed the importance of the fact that he became speaker of parliament, formed as a result of free, fair and transparent elections.
The Ambassador emphasized that the newly elected National Assembly has all the possibilities for the establishment of real parliamentarism in the RA. Mr. Switalski also appreciated the activation of inter- parliamentary relations and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the development of Armenia-EU relations. On behalf of the EU delegation, he expressed readiness to actively promote the development of the institutional capacities of the National Assembly based on the assessed needs of the parliament.
