ArmInfo. The Standing Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh on foreign relations issued a statement in connection with the 29th anniversary of mass massacre of the Armenian population in Baku. It is reported by the press service of the Artsakh parliament.
The statement, in particular, states: "From January 13 to 19, 1990, in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, a massacre of Armenian population. was organized by state authorities.
Hundreds of Armenians became victims of ethnic violence, and the property of the Armenians was plundered and taken away.Facing the immediate threat of physical destruction, a quarter of a million Armenians evicted from Baku settled as refugees in various countries of the world. In order to silence the voice of the Armenian population of Artsakh, who fought to restore historical justice and exercise their right to self-determination, the Baku authorities, with the connivance of the Gorbachev regime, carried out genocide against Armenians from Azerbaijan.Contrary to the facts recorded by international human rights organizations, the Azerbaijani authorities still hide their genocidal actions, distorting the realities and evading responsibility. Respecting the memory of innocent Armenians who were victims of massacres and forced deportations in Baku, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly for Foreign Relations: condemns any manifestation of xenophobia, extremism and terrorism, claims that violence against Armenians in Baku, throughout Eastern Transcaucasia, as well as North Artsakh and Nakhijevan, fully consistent with the legal formulation of the crime of genocide established by the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of 1948, calls on the international community of, human rights organizations and parliamentary structures to give a legal assessment of the massacres of the Armenian population in Baku and take action against ongoing at the state level in Azerbaijan's anti- Armenian propaganda. It confirms that the pogroms organized in Baku do not have a period of historical prescription and the Republic of Artsakh will be consistent in bringing the organizers and perpetrators of the Armenian Genocide of Azerbaijan to justice".
