ArmInfo. The Artsakh conflict is not over, but we have moved from the military to the information confrontation. The director of the "International Center for Human Development" Tevan Poghosyan said this at a press conference on December 21.
Poghosyan stressed that now the situation on the border is relatively calm. "If Azerbaijan does not show activity on the Line of Contact, the reason for that most likely is that we protect our positions so well that the enemy does not want to fail. However, Azerbaijan continues to actively arm itself and carry out engineering work on the positions. There is no progress in the negotiation process," Poghosyan stressed. In turn, political analyst Suren Sarkisian noted that, despite Baku's optimism about the dynamics around the negotiation process, the conflict will not be resolved in 2019. "The thing is that our countries have opposite positions. Even assuming that we reach consensus on the issue of the territories under the control of the Armenian side, Baku still does not recognize Artsakh. For us, the status of Artsakh is the key issue," Sarkissian said.
He stressed that, despite the rather peace-loving statements of the representatives of Azerbaijan, in the current situation one must always be ready for war. The expert also did not rule out the possibility of the start of new military actions. "Despite the optimism of Baku, I repeat, there will be no serious progress in the negotiations, even if a high-level meeting is held," Sarkissian concluded.
