ArmInfo.Ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan visited the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharian. "We discussed all issues related to the powers of an advocate of human rights," Arman Tatoyan told reporters.
According to him, he visited Robert Kocharyan the day after his arrest, talked face-to-face with him. "Following the conversation tete-a-tete, we prepared relevant messages, inquiries around those issues that were raised during the conversation," the Human Rights Defender said.
At the same time, Tatoyan did not clarify the range of issues discussed with Kocharyan. "Now I can't say this because the discussion procedure is going on and I also have an obligation to guarantee the confidentiality of the conversation. We also hold discussions with lawyers," the Ombudsman said.
Arman Tatoyan only noted that Kocharyan did not present complaints or discontent regarding the attitude of the employees in the penitentiary institution. According to him, they are in touch with Robert Kocharian's lawyers. "For a human rights defender, it doesn't matter what the person is accused of or how society treats this person. I am obliged to fulfill my functions. This has always been the case," the Ombudsman emphasized.
The Armenian Appeals Criminal Court on December 7 rejected the petitions of the second president Robert Kochariyn's lawyers 'team, leaving unchanged the decision of the court of first instance to elect a preventive measure in the form of detention against the former head of the RA. Later, on December 7, Robert Kocharyan voluntarily came to the "Yerevan Kentron" penal institution in pursuance of the decision to arrest. The office of the second president of Armenia called the arrest a political vendetta. The RPA, however, qualified this as pre-election pressure from the current government on political opponents.
