ArmInfo. The Armenian National Congress will not take part in the upcoming parliamentary elections on December 9.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party.
"Taking into account the peculiarities of the final stage of the revolutionary processes, the board considers it inappropriate to participate in the early parliamentary elections," the ANC statement received by ArmInfo reads. The document emphasizes that after the early elections a new situation will emerge in the country. Despite the completion of a nearly 20-year period of tough authoritarian policy, the new authorities will face the real impact of the former system on the fields of politics, economics, state and public life. Maintaining the rating system of elections, in turn, is a serious blow to both the recovery and development of the political system, and the democratic character of the upcoming elections. As a result, inevitably there will be problems in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the entire state system. Armenia, meanwhile, should be transferred to a radically new stage of change. In the coming years, on the one hand, it will be necessary to dismantle the old system of power, and on the other hand, to overcome the security challenges, ensure an economic take-off and create a state with truly democratic freedoms for citizens. After the elections, the Congress will present its proposals for change, acting behind the walls of parliament and attempting to unite the public around this agenda
