ArmInfo. The joint Armenian-Russian program in Syria will be completely humanitarian, and will not include any military component. Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this on November 13 from the podium of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
According to him, the goal of Armenia in Syria is to assist the Armenian community of Aleppo, in which a significant part of Armenian Diaspora, in returning to a peaceful life. The program of the stay of the Armenian peacekeepers in Syria will be fully funded by the state budget of the country. The project is being implemented at the request of the Syrian authorities and representatives of the Armenian community. "The people of Syria are preparing for a transition to a peaceful life, and for this reason, an opportunity has appeared to promote a specific field for the Armenian community of Aleppo," Nikol Pashinyan stressed.
To note an agreement on the implementation of the joint program was reached on September 8 following the visit of Nikol Pashinyan to Moscow. Later Acting RA Defense Minister David Tonoyan clarified that Armenia plans to send a team of defense ministry specialists to Syria, consisting of doctors, humanitarian demining specialists and a staff ensuring their safety. David Tonoyan noted that the group will deal exclusively with humanitarian issues. Consequently, she will have the status of not a contingent, but a group of specialists.
