ArmInfo. The President of the European People's Party, Joseph Daul met with Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Armen Ashotyan, who arrived in Helsinki to attend the EPP congress.
According to the press service of the RPA, the EPP leader made a record on this meeting on his Facebook page. " Today I had a fruitful discussion with Armen Ashotyan, Vice President of the Republican Party of Armenia, about the situation in the country following the decision of Prime Minister Pashinyan to resign, paving the way to snap elections. I stressed once again that the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary, the protection of human rights, the plurality and freedom of media, as well as free and fair elections are all key to the successful development of a democratic Armenian society. Ahead of the snap elections, I will continue to closely monitor the political developments in Armenia, emphasising the importance of ensuring equal conditions for all political forces engaged in the competition. Armenia needs a strong opposition. I also remind Armenian authorities of the importance of putting in place the reforms necessary to effectively implement the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed last year between the European Union and Republic of Armenia'', Daul wrote.
