ArmInfo. The Karabakh issue cannot be resolved by accepting statements, signing various documents and statements by the heads of the conflicting parties. This was announced at a press conference by the chairman of the permanent parliamentary commission on foreign relations Armen Ashotyan.
He noted that the signing of documents in which the position of Armenia on the Artsakh issue is fixed creates a special political climate and political framework through which one can come to the resolution of this issue. "The assessments of the European Parliament in the Karabakh issue are very important, since we can later refer to these documents", Ashotyan said.
He also touched upon the visit of the United States National Security Advisor to the President John Bolton in Armenia. "I want to note that the South Caucasus does not represent a separate value for the United States," he noted. Moreover, as noted by Ashotyan, this region is interested in superpowers in terms of its territorial location - proximity to the Middle East. According to him, both Russia and the United States are trying to strengthen their influence in the region to implement their future plans. "In particular, the main attention of the superpowers is now directed to the hot spots - Syria and Iran," said the MP.
Ashotyan also stated that the Armenian government had lost a great opportunity to properly respond to the statements of John Bolton and Richard Mills. He stressed that there are certain shortcomings in relations with the EU. "The fact is that the CEPA agreement entered into force since June of this year, but the Armenian government does not yet have a program in which steps to implement this agreement will be described. So, all actions last too long. Our task is not to repair obstacles to the new government, but to help it. I hope that tomorrow we will have the opportunity to discuss this issue with Nikol Pashinyan, "the MP concluded.
