ArmInfo. The Republican Party of Armenia will vote against the package of amendments in the Electoral Code. On October 29, the MP of the National Assembly of Armenia from the RPA faction Armen Ashotyan stated from the rostrum of the National Assembly .
According to him, it is impossible to carry out cardinal reforms of the Electoral Code 42 days before the elections. Against this development, the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe also spoke out. Ashotyan does not doubt the negative reaction from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. Moreover, according to him, there is information that the terms of the forthcoming early parliamentary elections have already been determined - December 9, and the process of inviting observers is already under way through external communication channels.
"We have all become your hostages," the MP addressed to Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, adding that there is an active pressure on MPs, including the RPA, in order for the latter to vote in favor of the documents submitted. "Vice-Premier Ararat Mirzoyan stated that he called many MPs, why didn't he call me?" Armen Ashotyan asked, adding that what is happening cannot be called democracy and political consensus.
In response, MP of the ''Yelk'' faction Alen Simonyan reminded Ashotyan of the actions of the Republican Party for the preservation of Serzh Sargsyan as head of state. "You even went to change the Basic Law to leave Serzh Sargsyan and continue the policy of Azerbaijanisation of Armenia," said Alen Simonyan, adding that on October 2, when the National Assembly of Armenia secretly adopted a scandalous amendment to the legislation, aimed at eliminating the possibility of early dissolution of parliament an attempt was made to counterrevolution. "This is the National Assembly, not the office of the RPA," the MP stressed, stressing that the people had already made a decision. "I understand the attempt of the" last of the Mohicans "to change the situation, but these are futile efforts," Alen Simonyan said, adding that the country needs new parliamentary elections that would reflect the will of the people.
