ArmInfo. The Special Investigation Service of Armenia accused the former commander of the Armenian Police, former deputy chief of the Police of Armenia, lieutenant- general of the police Levon Yeranosyan. As his lawyer Tigran Safaryan told ArmInfo, Yeranosyan does not plead guilty.
According to the lawyer, yesterday in SIS Yeranosyan was presented with a decision to bring him as a defendant. He is accused on the grounds of part 2 and 3of Article 309 of the RA Criminal Code (abuse of office, accompanied by violence and use of special means, which entailed grave consequences). At this stage, as the lawyer pointed out, Levon Yeranosyan taking advantage of his right, refused to give evidence. However, he did not plead guilty to the charges against him.
As Safaryan explained, the former commander of the police forces is accused of using special means, without having appropriate authority.
To recall, during the protests on April 16 and 22 this year police units used special means against demonstrators. The matter concerns the dispersal of protests in the streets of Baghramyan and Artsakh in Yerevan: on April 16, according to the police, 4 light-noise grenades of "Zarya-2", 2 light-noise grenades (40 mm) of "Sviril" (AC3 -40), and on April 22 in Artsakh street - 5 lightshot grenades of the type "Zarya- 2" were used. In total, 26 police officers were injured, more than 60 citizens were taken to hospitals.
