ArmInfo.Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on September 19 received the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic. This was reported by the press service of the Foreign Ministry.
According to the source, the Foreign Minister noted that Armenia and the Council of Europe share the same values, adding that cooperation with the Commissioner is one of the priorities for the RA.
The interlocutors noted the importance of Mijatovic's first visit to Armenia as Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, stressing that he gives good opportunities to familiarize himself with the situation on the ground and to indicate the next steps. In this context, the parties highly appreciated the role of an active and dynamic society in Armenia.
During the meeting, the focus was on the issue of legislative reforms in Armenia, issues related to human rights, as well as deepening cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe.
The sides also touched upon the issues of protection of women and children, as well as socially vulnerable segments of society. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan noted that the role of women in public life of the country is very significant. The Minister stressed that the process of developing a national plan of action on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on the role of women in the world and the resolution of conflicts was almost completed in Armenia.
Mnatsakanyan presented Miyatovich the country's priorities related to the settlement of the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict, stressing that the main beneficiaries in the settlement of the conflict are people who have the right to live in safety and their daily activities contribute to the realization of their goal. The Armenian Foreign Minister noted that Artsakh voluntarily ratified and successfully implements the main UN documents on human rights. He added that human rights for Armenia remain universal values, and cooperation for their protection must also be universal, without any exceptions.
