ArmInfo. The Chairman of the National Assembly Ara Babloyan received the Ambassador of Syria to Armenia Mohammed Haj Ibrahim on September 3.
As the press service of the parliament reports, Babloyan noted that Armenia, having much in common with Syria and taking into account friendly relations between the countries, continues to actively cooperate with the country, both in bilateral and multilateral formats. The Speaker of the Parliament expressed confidence that in the course of his activities the Ambassador will contribute to the development and strengthening of the Armenian-Syrian relations, in the political, trade-economic and other spheres. Babloyan also expressed his readiness to assist the Ambassador in his future initiatives aimed at deepening cooperation between the countries. The Chairman of the National Assembly noted the importance of developing inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Babloyan expressed gratitude to the people of Syria for his efforts towards the recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
Touching upon the domestic political situation in both countries, the speaker expressed the hope that peace and internal political stability will be established in Syria in the near future. Ara Babloyan noted that Armenia is ready to participate in reconstruction works in Syria.
In turn, Mohammed Haj Ibrahim assured that he will do everything possible for the comprehensive development of relations between Armenia and Syria. The Ambassador highly appreciated the cooperation between the two countries, noting that they have unrealized potential in the field of economy, in this context stressing the role of the Armenian community of Syria. "All that the people of Syria endured in recent years looks like what happened to the Armenians of Western Armenia," the ambassador concluded.
