ArmInfo. Ara Babloyan, Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia, August 31 received the Chairman of the Armenia-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group, Ramezan Ali Sobganfari.
As the press service of the parliament reports, Babloyan expressed confidence that this visit promotes the development of Armenian-Iranian relations, in particular, inter-parliamentary cooperation. The Speaker of the Parliament stressed that Armenia and Iran have developed close, warm relations based on mutual trust. According to him, parliamentary friendship groups play a special role in the development of interparliamentary cooperation. Bilateral contacts and mutual visits give new impetus not only to interparliamentary relations, but also to interstate relations. In this context Babloyan noted the importance of the agreements reached in the year of the visit of the parliamentary friendship group to Iran in February 2018.
The sides also touched on bilateral economic relations. It was noted that the Armenian- Iranian intergovernmental friendship group actively participates in this issue. The speaker stressed that Armenia can become a bridge between Iran, the EAEU and Europe for the development of trade and economic relations.
In his turn, the head of the Iran-Armenia friendship group noted that in the context of the development of interstate relations, parliamentary diplomacy plays a special role and significance.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the possibilities of expanding the Armenian-Iranian cooperation, particularly in the economic, energy, security, education, sports and tourism spheres. Issues related to the effective use of the opportunities provided by the Free Economic Zone in Meghri were discussed.
