"Russian President Vladimir Putin telephoned former Armenian leader Robert Kocharian and warmly congratulated him on his birthday," the Kremlin said in a statement.
Today, Kocharyan celebrates his 64th birthday. Robert Kocharian served as Armenian President from 1998 to 2008.
On July 26, the Special Investigation Service of Armenia presented to the ex-president of the country the charge of forcibly overthrowing the constitutional order in 2008 and appealed to the court to choose arrest as a preventive measure. On the same day, the ex-president was interrogated by investigators in the criminal case on murders in opposition protest actions on March 1, 2008. On July 27, Kocharian was detained under a court order. On August 13, the Yerevan Court of Appeal decided to release Kocharyan because he is inviolable in the constitution.
