ArmInfo. The process of constitutional reforms on the transition of Armenia to a parliamentary form of government has involved a long period of discussions, Head of the Republican Party of Armenia faction Vahram Baghdasaryan told journalists on August 29 commenting on yesterday's interview by Robert Kocharyan to NTV channel, in which the second president of Armenia stated that one of the reasons for the revolution was the election of Serzh Sargsyan as prime minister.
According to Vahram Baghdasaryan, taking the path of constitutional reforms was inevitable, regardless of who would have been elected prime minister. The transition to a parliamentary form of government was discussed for a long time, but during the presidency of Serzh Sargsyan the issue became actual. "We were a parliamentary majority, and together with our coalition partners we had to nominate our candidate, I have no doubt that, considering security of Armenia and Artsakh, we made the right choice." As for the statements that the third president was trying to retain the power I would like to note that if Serzh Sargsyan had left politics, the Republican Party of Armenia would have had to nominate another candidate, and the government would have remained in our hands anyway. I think that no matter who we had nominated, the process of change of power would happen anyway, because it had been planned for a long time ", - said Baghdasaryan, adding that Serzh Sargsyan has no plans to leave the country with his family. "All this is rumors," the MP said. To note on August 28, the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan in his interview to the NTV television channel stated that the third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, should not have made attempts to retain power by becoming the prime minister. Kocharyan noted that he always opposed these reforms and now he is of the same opinion.
