ArmInfo. Armenia will use the right of veto in the event that Azerbaijan wishes to join the CSTO or the Eurasian Economic Union. This was stated on August 28 during a briefing by Anna Naghdalyan, acting spokesman for the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
In this context, she recalled that both in the CSTO and in the EAEU all decisions are taken on the basis of consensus, and Armenia has repeatedly expressed its categorical position on this issue on various levels.
Answering the question on the current stage of the replacement of the CSTO Secretary General, Naghdalyan said in particular: "Armenia initiated the process of replacing the CSTO Secretary General, followed by consultations at different levels." The decision on this issue will be taken on the basis of consensus. As soon as the final decision will be made, we'll let you know. "Before that, I think anything to say is incorrect."
The representative of the Foreign Ministry also stressed that the chairmanship of the organization in accordance with its charter passed to Armenia for a period of 3 years. "Consequently, the next candidate will be elected from us for the remainder of the term," the representative of the Armenian Foreign Ministry noted.
