ArmInfo. Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the Armenian Parliament Armen Ashotyan touched upon the European vector of the Armenian foreign policy during the meeting with the European Parliament member and member of the Foreign Relations Committee Martin Sonneborn.
The press service of Armenian parliament told ArmInfo that Ashotyan noted the important role of the Armenia-EU comprehensive and expanded partnership agreement and its fastest ratification by the EU member states.
The sides stressed the importance of developing more effective cooperation with the EU. In this context, Ashotyan stressed that at this stage Armenia expects from the EU more precise steps and assistance on political issues. The interlocutors touched upon corruption scandals on the international platform with the participation of Azerbaijan. Ashotyan noted that the corruption operations of Azerbaijan deal a blow to the political authority of the European institutions and it is necessary to do everything possible to ensure that the international agenda was kept aside from such incidents.
The sides also touched upon the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. According to the Armenian MP, the right of the people of Artsakh to free expression of will is key in the negotiations, adding that the problem can not have a military solution. In the context of issues of regional stability, Ashotyan stressed the importance of international efforts to prevent an arms race.
