Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan expressed gratitude to the European Parliament for pro-Armenian activities, especially on such issues as the Armenian Genocide and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, during the meeting with the European Parliament member and member of the Foreign Relations Committee Martin Sonneborn.
As the press service of the Armenian government told ArmInfo, the meeting discussed the democratic process in Armenia, and in this context the issues related to the forthcoming reforms.
Touching upon the "velvet revolution", Pashinyan noted that Armenia is at the stage of serious reforms, and the steps of the new government are aimed at developing democracy in the country, fighting corruption, ensuring the rule of law, protecting human rights, ensuring the independence of the judiciary, eradicating monopolies and creating an enabling business environment. He added that these reforms will allow Armenia to become more democratic, safe and successful.
In turn, the European MP welcomed the peaceful democratic processes in Armenia, and the reforms initiated by the government in various fields.
The sides noted the importance of assistance of the EU and European structures in the successful implementation of the agenda of democratic changes in Armenia. The sides also touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, stressing the importance of a peaceful settlement of the conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
