ArmInfo. The constitutional order has been restored in Armenia after 20 years, candidate for Yerevan mayor's post from the Armenian Pan-National Movement Ararat Zurabyan stated at a meeting with journalists on August 21.
According to Zurabyan, the anti-democratic power in Armenia has remained in the past. "There is a new situation in Armenia, however, part of the Armenian society had bigger expectations than the results that were recorded over the past 100 days, but one thing is clear: Armenia has made serious progress, including in the March 1, 2008 case. The fact is that our society will not have the opportunity to move forward unless the March 1 case is revealed, "he said.
According to the leader of the ANM, the awareness of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan regarding the events of March 1 is much deeper than that of other citizens. "First, the authorities falsified the results of the elections, after which they used force against peaceful demonstrators who protested, which led to numerous victims." The main culprit in this case is the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, "Zurabyan said.
Zurabyan also touched upon the upcoming elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan. The leader of the ANM noted that all candidates have equal chances. At the same time, he noted that all the problems that are in the capital are equally important. "Today many people are unhappy with elevators, however, I will start my activity as mayor from preschool institutions, young people who make noise in the evenings in the capital, because these are all very important issues. 80 billion drams, almost half of Armenia's population lives in the capital and the amount allocated to the city is clearly not enough to solve all problems, "he said.
Recall that the former mayor of Yerevan, Taron Margaryan, who held this post since 2011, announced the resignation on July 9. Actor Hayk Marutyan (from the Civil Contract party), Zaruhi Postanjyan (leader of the Yerkir Tsirani party), Ararat Zurabyan (Armenian National Movement) will participate in the early elections to the Yerevan City Council in September this year. The "Enlightened Armenia" Party and the "Republic" propose the candidacy of the Minister of Justice of Armenia Artak Zeynalyan. The daughter of the prominent Armenian architect Arthur Tarkhanyan, the wife of the political prisoner recently released and convicted by the former authorities for organizing the riots, Andreas Ghoukasyan - Anahit Tarkhanyan (GALA party) also expressed a desire to run.
The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia has appointed early elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan on September 23. The election campaign will start on September 10.
