On March 1, during a mass protest following the 2008 presidential elections, in which the victory was won by Serzh Sargsyan, a clash took place between the siloviki and the participants in the rallies. As a result, 10 people died. The current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also actively participated in the opposition's actions, which initiated the resumption of the case on March 1 events.
Within the framework of the criminal case, charges have already been brought against the second Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, former Defense Minister Mikael Harutyunyan, acting CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov. Pashinyan said at a rally on August 17 that the case of March 1, 2008 events was fully disclosed.
