ArmInfo. Former Defense Minister of Armenia Mikael Harutyunyan, accused of dispersing protest actions in 2008, is declared an interstate wanted list. On August 21, during a press conference in Yerevan, Armenian Police Chief Valery Osipyan said, specifying that Harutyunyan's name is not on Interpol's lists.
"Harutyunyan is declared an interstate wanted list, not yet by the Interpol line," Osipyan said.
To clarify that the information is being discussed, that Harutyunyan is in Russia, Osipyan in particular said: "I can say that we know about this as much as you do."
The former Defense Minister Mikael Harutyunyan was charged in the framework of the criminal investigation into the events of March 1, 2008. The second Armenian President Robert Kocharian and the CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov are also on trial.
The media reported that Mikael Harutyunyan is not only in Russia, but also a Russian citizen. Against this background, as mentioned, Harutyunyan's extradition is unlikely, since according to the Code of Criminal Procedure, extradition of a person for criminal prosecution is not allowed if the person against whom a request has been received from a foreign state is a citizen of the Russian Federation.
