ArmInfo. The Republican Party, which has a majority in the Council of Elders of Yerevan, nevertheless will not nominate a candidate for the post of the capital's mayor. This was reported by the sources of ArmInfo in the Moscow City Hall, while being unable to explain the reasons for this decision of the RPA.
It is not yet clear how the "Elk" faction will act. The day before, in a conversation with ArmInfo correspondent, the head of this faction David Khazhakyan stated that the "Elk" did not discuss either the nomination of the candidate or the candidate himself. "Yelk" is waiting for the return of its leader, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan from Brussels for the final resolution of these issues.
The only candidate for the post of mayor of Yerevan to date is the head of the Yerkir Tsirani faction Zaruhi Postanjyan, who had submitted her registration documents the day before.
The deadline for the nomination of candidates ends today. Elections of the mayor of Yerevan will be held on July 16 at 11:00 am at an extraordinary meeting of the Moscow Council of Elders. If the Yerevan elders fail to elect a mayor, the Council will be dissolved and new capital elections will be appointed.
The mayor of Yerevan, Republican Taron Margarian, recently resigned, without explaining the reasons for his decision.
