ArmInfo. Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with his Azerbaijani colleague Elmar Mammadyarov in Brussels. This was reported by the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
According to the source, after the democratic movement in Armenia, which led to the change of power and the formation of a new government, this meeting was the first between the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of the two states. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group Igor Popov (Russia), Stefan Visconti (France), Andrew Chaufer (USA), as well as the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk took part in the meeting.
The RA Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his gratitude to the co-chairs for organizing the meeting. He stressed the importance of the peace process and the need to maintain the dynamics of negotiations. The meeting was of an introductory nature and was aimed at acquaintance with the visions of the parties. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan stressed that the negotiation process has no alternative, and in this context it is important to create an atmosphere of mutual trust conducive to the peace process, reduce the level of tension, unquestioningly maintain the ceasefire, and renounce militant rhetoric. He also pointed to the need to involve all parties in the conflict settlement process, which is important in terms of the effectiveness of efforts to achieve lasting peace. The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan presented their forthcoming programs, as well as further steps.
