ArmInfo.It is the right time to develop and implement short-term, mid-term and long-term institutional reforms in Armenia, world- renowned economist Daron Acemoglu stated at a video-conference held with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan and other government officials on June 11.
As the press service of Armenian government informs, Acemoglu stressed that the reforms should be implemented in the financial and judicial fields and the investment environment should be improved. All the activities should involve definite actions in defined period of time in order to reach results. Daron Acemoglu stressed the importance of introducing flexible institutional mechanisms of counter-balances in various branches of the government, which in his opinion will help to eliminate previously existing vicious phenomena, will increase transparency of government's actions, which in turn will lead to constant monitoring of the authorities by the society. "Due to work of the incumbent government citizens feel their involvement in political life of the country. Many people in Armenia are truly excited now and they really want to be a part of this politics," Acemoglu said. He expressed readiness to assist in any format the Armenian government in the development of democracy and implementation of reforms.
During the press-conference the interlocutors agreed to continue discussions in the nearest future.
To note, earlier world-renowned economist Daron Acemoglu accepted Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's proposal to assist in restoration of Armenian economy. In an interview to Armenian <Acos> newspaper in Istanbul he pointed at the need of public transformation. According to him Armenian economy hardly suffered from corruption and bribes. At the same time, he noted that a peaceful social transition is required, which only Armenian society can ensure.
