ArmInfo.Minister of Territorial Administration and Development of Armenia Suren Papikyan received the Ambassador of the United States to Armenia Richard Mills and the Program Coordinator of the US Agency for International Development Adam Stefan.
As the press service of the ministry reports, the minister expressed gratitude to the US Ambassador and USAID for active and constant support of the reforms being implemented in Armenia in the field of local self-government. Touching upon the theme of local government and strengthening democracy, the minister said: "After the Velvet Revolution, we have created an amazing opportunity to form a truly democratic country, and on this way, our government considers the key establishment of democracy in the places."
Papikyan stressed that in the process of optimizing communities within the framework of administrative and territorial reforms, the issue of public participation is the key option.
The US Ambassador to Armenia stated that the reforms of local self-government along with the administrative and financial decentralization of communities are an important factor in enhancing the credibility of democracy and public confidence. The ambassador noted that US representatives are ready to continue supporting reforms in the field of local self-government and other priorities of the new government.
