ArmInfo. The prosecutor, who ensures the lawful outcome of the case on the participation of the Mayor and Vice Mayor of Masis David Hambartsumyan and Karen Ohanyan in beating an activist in the Yerevan community of Erebuni during mass protests, suspended the powers of the two accused.
As the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia informs, the prosecutor considered that the accused, while continuing to perform their official duties, would interfere with the investigation of the case.
Meanwhile, in an interview with ArmInfo correspondent, Hambardzumyan's lawyer Tigran Atanesyan stated that the prosecutor is not entitled to terminate the office of the elected mayor, since this is a political post. "Such a decision can be made only by the authorized structure," Atanesyan said. Earlier, the court, under the guarantee of 8 MPs from the Republican Party, released Ambartsumian and three other accused in the case, under a written undertaking not to leave the place. Hambardzumyan categorically denies his involvement in the fight that took place on April 22 in the Yerevan community of Erebuni.
