ArmInfo. The Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia Levon Mkrtchyan participated in the international conference "Joint Institute for Nuclear Research: 25 Years of a New Era" as part of his official visit to Moscow.
According to the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Science and Education, Minister addressed the conference, stressing the importance of further development of scientific and technical cooperation between the member states. "Soviet Armenia was part of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research from the day it was created on the basis of the Agreement signed on March 26, 1956. The Republic of Armenia has been a member of the Institute since 1992. During this period, strong ties were established with Armenian scientific centers, Yerevan State University and the Yerevan Physical Institute, Armenian specialists participate in many major JINR projects, first of all, it allows carrying out fundamental and applied research in frames the interests of the two countries that can not be realized within each country separately for a number of reasons.In addition, through the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Armenian physicists and engineers develop scientific and technical cooperation with nuclear centers, such as the European Organization for Nuclear Research.Cooperation with JINR gives an opportunity to cooperate widely with other CIS member states and participating countries abroad, "Mkrtchyan said. The RA Minister of Education and Science also stressed that the Armenian side is interested in the fact that the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in its projects paid special attention to the EU program "Horizon 2020". Levon Mkrtchyan noted that the Government of the Republic of Armenia attaches great importance to further cooperation with the Institute.
