ArmInfo. Armenian Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Armenia Georgi Saganelidze discussed issues of Armenian-Georgian cooperation.
Welcoming the ambassador, Sharmazanov stressed the traditional friendship of the two fraternal peoples, the need for even greater development and expansion of Armenian-Georgian ties in all possible directions, the activation of ties between the parliaments of Armenia and Georgia at the level of friendship groups and commissions.
Vice Speaker of the National Assembly turned to the problems of regional security. In connection with the Karabakh problem, he stressed that Yerevan is a supporter of a peaceful negotiated settlement of the issue, meanwhile as Baku opposes it. Sharmazanov recalled the constantly sounding militaristic and anti- Armenian statements of the Azerbaijani president.
Issues of bilateral cultural cooperation, development of tourism, steps for mutual acquaintance with spiritual and historical values were also discussed.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the RA, thanking for the warm welcome, stressed that Georgia in relations with Armenia emphasizes the importance of expanding cooperation in all spheres, especially on the platforms of parliamentary diplomacy. Touching upon regional problems, Saganelidze confirmed Georgia's balanced position in the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh problem. He noted with satisfaction the warm and friendly relations existing between the two countries, stressing that the parties should do everything possible to further deepen and strengthen them.
