ArmInfo.On March 22, within the framework of the next visit to Armenia, a group of experts from the NATO Defense Education Improvement Program visited the National Defense Research University of the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Armenia. Guests were received by the chief-founder of the National Defense Research University, lieutenant-general, doctor of political sciences, professor Hayk Kotanjyan.
Professor Kotanjyan stressed the importance of the support provided by the NATO expert group in the ongoing reform of the defense education system in Armenia. He also noted that the educational process at the University is organized on the basis of the adaptation of the model of Western research universities and institutions and the experience of Russian think tanks by transferring the research component of the scientific and applied research products to the audience as a teaching aid.
The guests were presented the main results of the four-week course of in-department retraining conducted at the University in October-November 2017, as well as the program of an eight-week refresher course developed in the NIOS in an interdepartmental format. It was noted that in the courses scheduled for May- June 2018, the deputy heads of the departments that are part of the defense sector will take part.
Hayk Kotanjyan informed the audience that the National Defense University of Defense has begun to review the RA National Security Strategy. The Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS) of the MoD was the scientific coordinator of the drafting of the first national security strategy of the Republic of Armenia, and at present the RRI, created by the transformation of INSS, uses the knowledge and methodology acquired in this process.
At the meeting with the report, the deputy head of the Scientific Research Institute for Education, head of the Institute of National Strategic Defense and Security Education Colonel Suren Davtyan, also spoke.
Member of the group of experts of the NATO Defense Education Improvement Program, brigadier retired from Canada Ernest Beno gave a lecture on "Education of strategic leaders in an interagency cooperation environment".
