ArmInfo. The Armenian parliament approved the draft amendments to the law on March 21 in the first reading "On the diplomatic service."
Presenting the draft amendments, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan noted that the bill submitted by the government is due to the need to bring it in line with the new Constitution of the country. In addition, in some legal acts - the laws "On Public Service", "On Management Organizations", should also be brought into line with the Basic Law of the country.
According to the amendments to the law on the diplomatic service, it is envisaged to regulate the principles and order of the organization of the diplomatic service, to streamline relations related to the passage and termination of the diplomatic service, the appropriation of diplomatic ranks, the establishment of the legal status of persons performing the diplomatic service with the social guarantees of these persons and members their families, the financing of the diplomatic service.
Thus, the position of deputy foreign ministers is recognized as a political office, and the posts of ambassadors are administrative, which implies the application of a special order for their appointment and dismissal. It is also planned to introduce the institute of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The bill is also planned to hold competitions for promotion.
