ArmInfo. Armenian parliament unanimously adopted a statement on the Sumgait pogroms.
The statement, in particular, reads: "The well-planned events in Sumagit were another manifestation of the anti-Armenian policy of Azerbaijan. The purpose of these pogroms was the forced expulsion of Armenians from their homes and the destruction of the Armenian population of Azerbaijan. The pogroms in Sumgait were a continuation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani policy of Azerbaijan, which began in 1918. As a result pogroms in Baku in 1918 killed 30,000 Armenians, and 20,000 Armenians were killed in Shushi in 1920. Azerbaijan continued its policy also in the Soviet era, when the use of force began the forcible forcible expulsion of Armenians from Nakhchivan and other Armenian settlements, pogroms received a new impetus in 1988 and 1991. It was at this time that mass pogroms were carried out in Sumgait, Baku, Gandzak, Kirovabad, and in 1991 a large-scale aggression against Karabakh began in the course of Operation Koltso, ethnic cleansing was carried out in 22 Armenian villages, in 1992 in the village of Maraga in Artsakh, there were large-scale murders of old people, women and children, in Khojaly, Azerbaijanis also massacred now a peaceful Azerbaijani population so as to make Armenians guilty in the eyes of the international community. And after the signing of the ceasefire agreement, Azerbaijan often violated the trilateral truce, carried out diversionary incursions, and in 2016 initiated a large-scale military aggression.
The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia condemns the massacres, violence and deportations carried out by Azerbaijan against the peaceful Armenian population, as well as the Armenian- Afghan, racist policy of Baku and aggressive military actions unleashed against Nagorno-Karabakh. " The text also calls on parliaments and parliamentary assemblies concerned with the protection of human rights structures - to condemn the crimes committed by Azerbaijan and continuing to this day against civilians, violations of international humanitarian law, which is a threat not only for the Armenian people, but for security and stability and the development of the entire region.
