ArmInfo. Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan received the delegation headed by the EU's special representative Council Toivo Claar in the South Caucasus and in the crisis in Georgia.
According to the press service of the Defense Ministry, highly appreciating the Armenia-EU relations, Sargsyan noted the importance of the balanced position of the European Union in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and political assistance to the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is clearly reflected in the framework agreement signed on November 24, 2017.
In turn, Claar stressed that the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through peaceful negotiations is the position of the European Union. The Armenian Defense Minister presented the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border and on the contact line of the Karabakh-Azerbaijani troops. Referring to the militaristic statements that sounded the last day from the mouths of the military and political leadership of Azerbaijan, Sargsyan stressed that such behavior in no way contributes to a peaceful settlement of the problem. "Such statements do not require great wisdom, it only promotes the propaganda of provocations, which can have irrevocable consequences for the Azerbaijani people," he said. The sides underlined the importance of proper reaction of the international community to such statements. At the meeting, the parties also discussed a number of issues on the Armenia-EU cooperation agenda and regional security issues.
