ArmInfo. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini and Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in Brussels signed the EU-Armenia Partnership Priorities.
As reported on the official website of the EU, the document establishes general policy priorities for the coming years in accordance with the new EU-Armenia Agreement on a comprehensive and expanded partnership.
The signed document covers four main areas of cooperation, in particular: strengthening institutions and good governance; economic development and market opportunities; communication, energy efficiency, the environment and climate action; mobility and contacts between people.
The organization reports that Partnership priorities will be of key importance from the point of view of providing financial assistance to Armenia in the period until 2020. The European Union plans to provide Armenia with about 160 million EUR for the period. The funds are planned to be invested, among other things, in such areas as education and innovations, which are key to the economic development of Armenia.
"The European Union and Armenia, having signed this agreement, further strengthen our already strong friendship and cooperation. In combination with our new Comprehensive and Expanded Partnership Agreement, which we signed just three months ago at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels, we are strengthening our joint commitment to achieve positive results in areas that really affect people's lives, both in the EU and in Armenia," Magherini said.
European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Johannes Khan welcomed the adoption of partnership priorities between the European Union and Armenia. According to him, this is a direct result of the differentiation of bilateral relations on the basis of mutual interests.
At the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda, including the implementation of the Armenia-EU framework agreement.
