ArmInfo.Armen Ashotyan, Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, met in Tbilisi on February 14 with the Chairman of the Georgian Parliamentary Committee for Integration with Europe, the Head of the Georgian Parliamentary Delegation to the PA, Euronest Tamar Khulordava.
As the press service of the National Assembly reports, during the meeting the parliamentarians of the two countries touched upon the strengthening of relations between the committees of the two parliaments and the intensification of cooperation, in particular within the framework of the Eastern Partnership.
Touching upon the expansion of cooperation with the European Union, the sides noted the importance of signing the Comprehensive and Expanded Agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union, in this context noting the need for sharing experience with Georgia in the field of European integration. Armen Ashotyan also noted that Armenia attaches great importance to more active cooperation with partner countries that are in the process of European integration. The chairman of the commission added that the agreement was the result of diplomatic efforts in Armenia and Europe and expressed the hope that this success story will positively affect cooperation with the Eastern Partnership countries.
During the meeting, the parties touched upon the use of instruments of parliamentary control through public participation.
Touching upon the constitutional reforms being carried out in both countries, Armen Ashotyan noted that Armenia is consistently moving to the system of parliamentary government, and stressed the importance of sharing experience in the context of the formation of parliamentary democracy.
During the meeting, the sides noted that the exchange of experience on issues of integration with the EU is on the agenda at the current stage of cooperation between the two parliaments. Armen Ashotyan confirmed Armenia's readiness for closer cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
