ArmInfo. The Republican Party of Armenia intends to nominate incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan as the candidate for the country's prime ministers. With such a statement on February 9 from the rostrum of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, the head of the opposition parliamentary faction "Yelk" Nikol Pashinyan made a speech.
According to him, the de facto ruling party in the country has already taken an appropriate decision. "If Serzh Sargsyan decides to nominate himself as prime minister, this can sharply aggravate the domestic political situation," the opposition leader said. Artak Zeynalyan, deputy of the National Assembly of the same faction, recalled that the decisions on clemency are fixed by the Constitution for the president, but the bill passed today in the first reading actually deprives this institution, and the powers of the future president will have a formal character. Meanwhile, the deputy from the Elk bloc, Ararat Mirzoyan, believes that the authorities are urgently trying to provide the future prime minister with as many rights and powers as possible until April of this year.
"The significant expansion of the powers of the future prime minister will be catastrophic for the country, the head of the Armenian government will get much more powers than even the incumbent president of Armenia," the deputy said, adding that with the adoption of new laws the country goes to the formation for the prime minister of the super - Institute, which is unacceptable.
