ArmInfo. The statement of the chairman of the National Council of Switzerland Dominique de Buhman that the Artsakh people has the full right to determine their destiny is motivated by the commitment of the Swiss politician to the principles of democracy and the protection of human rights.
This opinion was expressed in the conversation with the correspondent of ArmInfo by the vice speaker of the Armenian parliament, press secretary of the ruling Republican Party Eduard Sharmazanov.
"We should not forget that the Karabakh conflict is not a territorial dispute, as Azerbaijan tries to represent, first of all, the issue of protecting democratic human rights, one of the fundamental elements of which is the people's right to self-determination, and the international community is well aware of this, "Sharmazanov explained, stressing that it is very important for the Armenian side that one of the leaders of such a country as Switzerland from the main political tribune of Armenia voiced this statement, defending the right of Artsakh to Ode to determine their own destiny.
He noted that in 1945, 57 countries were members of the UN, now the organization includes more than 200 countries - that is, world trends are developing in the spirit of the principle of the right of peoples to self-determination. Touching upon the Azerbaijani hysteria on Buhman's statement in Yerevan, the vice-speaker noted that this is due to the fact that Baku has not yet reconciled with the fact that the Karabakh conflict should be resolved on the basis of the three Helsinki principles - the right of peoples to self-determination, territorial integrity of states and non-use of force.
"The people of Artsakh should have the opportunity, in accordance with their right to determine their fate, and the sooner this is understood in Baku, the earlier we can come to a solution to this question," Sharmazanov said, stressing that Artsakh in 1991 self-determined on the same grounds , as other Soviet republics.
