ArmInfo. The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia launched a criminal case on February 6 in connection with threats against the editor-in-chief of Medialab.am website Marianna Grigoryan.
As the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia told ArmInfo, a criminal case was opened on the grounds of Article 137 part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. The case is directed to the Investigative Committee.
Recall that on January 28 after the publication of the cartoon "Flowers of the beggar" in the social network Facebook to the website and editor-in-chief editor Marianna Grigoryan, the website "Medialab.am" received threats from a certain user Hayk Berman Ohanyan. He threatened reprisal not only Grigoryan, but also her child.
Threats began to flow to the editorial office and after the publication of information about the purchase by the Ministry of Defense in December of flowers for 7 million drams and about corruption risks. According to the editor-in-chief of the site, Marianna Grigoryan, this is not the first case of threats to the site, however, this time is different. So in August of last year, unknown people broke the windows of the site editor's car and stole caricatures of the country's leadership. The criminal was never found, and the criminal case was closed. After these threats, Marianna Grigoryan appealed to law enforcement agencies.
In connection with this incident, the Ombudsman of Armenia made a speech, urging the law enforcement bodies of the country to immediately begin the proceedings on this report. He called to find and bring to justice the person who carried out this act. "The threat of violence against any journalist or the media is strictly punishable," the Ombudsman said. A condemnatory statement was made by the US Embassy in Armenia, which also called upon Armenian law enforcers to properly investigate the incident.
