ArmInfo.A member of the Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Samvel Farmanyan, delivered a speech at the January session of the organization dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the movement for the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh, during which he presented factual evidence of the international community's assistance to the struggle of the Karabakh people for self-determination.
In particular, the MP stressed that this movement was initially given international support. As evidence of what he said, he cited the documents adopted over the years by various weighty international organizations and foreign countries. So, on January 12, 1989, in one of the resolutions of the European Parliament, Stalin characterizes Nagorno-Karabakh as a territory handed over voluntarily to Azerbaijan. In another resolution adopted in January of the same year, the same European Parliament stresses: "The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the result of the division of the territory of Transcaucasia from Lenin, in particular, the willful transfer of Nagorny Karabakh to Azerbaijan in 1923." On October 24, 1992, the US House of Representatives in its resolution concludes: "The United States can not assist Azerbaijan unless this country has taken effective steps towards the Armenian deblockade and has not stopped all attempts to use force against the RA and Nagorno-Karabakh."
On November 10, 1994, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe calls on Azerbaijan to immediately stop the blockade of Armenia.
All these and other numerous statements and resolutions of international organizations, world powers, prominent politicians, as well as thousands of publications of weighty media testify to the assistance of the democratic world to the struggle of the people of Karabakh for independence, Farmanyan said. "I should note with satisfaction that this large-scale assistance continues to this day, will continue tomorrow, regardless of the efforts of Azerbaijan," the deputy summed up.
