ArmInfo.The chairman of the Artsakh Republic National Assembly Ashot Ghulyan on January 26 received the delegation that arrived in Stepanakert on the eve of yesterday, headed by the deputy of the European Parliament, a member of the Foreign Relations Commission Lars Adaktusson.
As the press service of the legislative body reports, welcoming the guests, the chairman of the parliament highly appreciated the visits of his European colleagues, noting that they contribute to the development of the European value system in Artsakh. "We very much appreciate these relations, which we formed over the years with European structures," Ashot Ghulian said.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, Lars Adaktusson noted that he is in Artsakh with a fact-finding mission. He expressed confidence that the information gathered during the visit will be useful in the formation of correct ideas about Artsakh and its application in future activities.
During the meeting, the sides touched upon the basic human rights and freedoms, cooperation at the parliamentary level, the independence of the judiciary in Artsakh and the rule of law.
The chairman of the permanent commission on foreign relations Arzik Mkhitaryan, as well as the deputy foreign minister Armine Alexanian, the chairman of the Haydat Europe commission Gaspard Karapetyan took part in the meeting. Then the delegation met with the members of the friendship group "Republic of Artsakh-Europarliament".
The head of the friendship group, deputy chairman of the National Assembly Vahram Balayan touched upon the obstacles in the foreign policy sphere of Artsakh, stressing that meetings in such a format contribute to the voice of Artsakh being heard.
Answering the questions of the deputies, Adaktusson touched upon the rights of Iraqi Kurds and Christians in Iraq and Syria, as well as Turkey's accession to the European Union.
At the meeting the parliamentarians of Artsakh exchanged views with the guests on possible solutions to the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict, security, the 30th anniversary of the Artsakh liberation struggle, local self-government in Artsakh and other internal political issues.
