ArmInfo. Citizens of Armenia studying in foreign educational institutions will receive the right to defer from the army to the age of 19 years. The Armenian government approved amendments to the law "On military service and the status of serviceman" on January 25 at the meeting. Levon Mkrtchyan, Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, presenting the project, recalled that the citizens of the country studying in the general education system of Armenia have the right to defer from the army to completion of education in the general education system, before the completion of their 19th anniversary, and not a day more. Currently, a similar law is also proposed to be extended to the citizens of Armenia who have migrated from the country and are being trained in general educational institutions of other countries. In fact, as noted by the head of the Ministry of Education and Science, this will ensure the constitutional right of Armenian citizens to continuous general education. According to the Armenian legislation, male citizens aged 18 and over are recruited for compulsory military service. Meanwhile, there is a 12-year education system in Armenia.
