ArmInfo.The Armenian parliament adopted a statement on the condemnation of the Yezidis genocide on the territories of Iraq controlled by the terrorist groups on January 16. Representatives of all political forces unanimously supported the adoption of this document.
As stated by the representative of the Yezidi community of Armenia, a deputy from the ruling Republican Party Rustam Mahmudyan, presenting the document, the project's goal is not only condemnation, but also the prevention of such crimes in the future. According to him, the document also calls on international organizations to identify and punish the criminals responsible for the Yezidi genocide. He also noted that the need to adopt this document appeared in the light of the killing and capture of hundreds of thousands of Yezidis in the north of Iraq by Islamic militants. The draft also refers to the solidarity of Armenia to the Republic of Iraq. Mahmudyan stressed that the Yezidi genocide was in many respects similar to the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Turkey in the early 20th century. Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, RPA spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov called to declare January 16 as the day of memory of the victims of the Yezidi genocide. Note that 20 countries have already recognized the Yezidis genocide in Iraq.
