ArmInfo. On December 15, the delegation headed by Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov, in the composition of the deputies Samvel Farmanyan and Suren Manukyan met with the Deputy Chairman of the Seimas of Latvia, Iness Libiena-Egneret.
During the meeting, the sides stressed the importance of further development and deepening of the Armenian-Latvian friendly relations, intensification of mutual visits.
The Vice Speaker of the National Assembly appealed to the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the policy of denying Turkey, noting that 100 years later the Turkish authorities continue to carry out this destructive policy, blocking Armenia, which is unacceptable. Sharmazanov expressed the hope that the bearer of democratic values and the EU member Latvia in the near future will recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide.
Speaking about the signed Armenia-EU comprehensive and expanded partnership agreement, the NA Vice Speaker expressed confidence that Armenia can become a reliable bridge between the countries of the EAEU and the EU. He also expressed the hope that the Latvian parliament will ratify the document as soon as possible.
Referring to the process of settling the Karabakh problem, Sharmazanov turned to bellicose rhetoric and propaganda of Azerbaijan. "There are countries that fall into the trap of false propaganda of Azerbaijan, including Latvia, Some high-ranking officials of Latvia make statements contrary to the interests of the peaceful settlement of the problem." I call on not to follow the Azerbaijani false propaganda, not to fall into this trap and not to make statements on the Artsakh issue, which contradict the official positions of the Minsk Group and the EU, "the NA Vice Speaker noted.
The Deputy Chairman of the Seimas of Latvia, Libiena-Egnere, noted that Riga in the Artsakh issue supports the efforts and principles of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
