ArmInfo. The delegation led by the NA Vice Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, in the composition of the deputies of the National Assembly Samvel Farmanyan and Suren Manukyan met with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andrei Pildegovich. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Republic of Tigran Mkrtchyan attended the meeting.
During the meeting, issues related to the development of the Armenian-Latvian parliamentary relations and the consistent cooperation of Armenia with the European Union were discussed. Vice Speaker of the National Assembly appealed to the Agreement on the comprehensive and expanded partnership of the Republic of Armenia - EU, signed in Brussels on November 24, stressing that the document opens a new page in the history of relations between Armenia and the European Union. According to him, Armenia has always stated about the priority of close cooperation with the EU.
At the meeting, the sides also discussed issues of regional security. The Vice Speaker of the National Assembly noted the unacceptability of Turkey's closure of the border with Armenia, stressing that this state withdrew from the Zurich protocols and put unacceptable preconditions in the process of normalizing relations.
Turning to a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, Sharmazanov noted that the Armenian point of view on this issue is consonant with the official position of the EU. "Both the Minsk Group, the European Union and the Republic of Armenia support the settlement of the problem exclusively through peaceful negotiations on the basis of three well-known principles (non-use of force, territorial integrity of states and the right of the people to self-determination), while Azerbaijan, distorting reality, the integrity of this package. It is strange and incomprehensible that some EU member states, including Latvia, signed a declaration on strategic cooperation with Azerbaijan, in which of the three known principles s stands apart only the principle of territorial integrity This is contrary to the official position as a Minsk Group, and the European Union, which once again confirmed by the EU on November 24,".
