ArmInfo. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who is on a working visit to New Delhi, met with representatives of the Armenian community of India.
According to the press service of Armenian leader, during his address to the community representatives, Sargsyan touched upon the Armenian-Indian historical and cultural contacts, the great role of the Armenian community of India in strengthening the centuries-old friendship of the two peoples, Armenia-Diaspora relations, the challenges facing the country and Armenians all over the world and possible ways of overcoming them, and as well as significant events that occurred in the life of Armenia in the recent period, including the transition to a parliamentary form of government.
The President of Armenia answered the questions of interest to the community representatives, listened to their success stories, problems, and expectations from the homeland in the matter of their solution, as well as their activities in the community life. At the request of the representatives of the community, Sargsyan presented the issues discussed and the agreements reached at the meetings with the high leadership of India, aimed at further strengthening the historically formed ties between the two friendly countries and peoples.
The President noted that it is nice to see that together with the representatives of the Armenian community there is also the chairman of the Union of Alumni of Yerevan Medical University, Dr. Daldzhit Singh Chauhan. Sargsyan expressed his conviction that the large community of Indian graduates of Armenian universities is also a bridge of friendship between the two countries, which should be further strengthened and expanded. The President of Armenia was pleased to note that Honorary Consul Shivkumar Ishvaran also unites efforts with the Armenian Embassy in India and expressed the hope that their common initiatives will be fruitful. "We have to be united on the way of overcoming all the challenges and solving our problems, our great thinkers always spoke of unity, and it's not a secret that our people believe that we are one when our homeland and our land are in danger." Today our task, to spread this unity also in relatively peaceful conditions, because the challenges facing us are very acute, and confrontation requires even greater efforts.We have a great source of strength, we have circumstances that turn the idea of unity into a necessary, obligatory. . The Armenian President also gave an interview to the state-run Indian television company Doordarshan, which touched upon the agenda of Armenian-Indian interstate relations and prospects for development, the potential for cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, historical and cultural contacts between the Armenian and Indian peoples and a number of other issues.
