ArmInfo. The opposition of the EU and the EAEU to Armenia is harmful. I can say that the agreement that is being prepared for signing with the EU is not the result of opposing, but combining these two integration projects. Armen Ashotyan, chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, expressed this opinion during a round table organized by the Armenian Institute of International Affairs and Security. "We do not stand at the crossroads between West and East, we stand on the bridge connecting the West and the East." In this light, I urge all not to exaggerate the implications of the agreement that is being signed with Europe. "For Armenia this is not a goldfish capable of solving all our problems, for further, fruitful work," he said.
Ashotyan considers the softening of the position of the current European Commission regarding the agreement being prepared for signing with Armenia obvious. According to him, the position of the former European Commission was much tougher and in fact pursued the achievement of purely geopolitical goals aimed against Russia.
According to him, the signing of the Agreement with the EU for Armenia is all the more important, given the vague future of the EU's Eastern Partnership project. According to his estimates, the "EP" is now in deep crisis, as European countries lost interest in the project. In this light, Ashotyan considers the formulation of the direct, Armenia-EU own agenda of necessity a necessity.
November 24, 2017 at the Brussels summit of the "Eastern Partnership" Armenia plans to sign a partnership document on the partnership with the EU, which was initialed on March 21 - the Agreement on Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership. The Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU initiated the relevant talks on October 12, 2015 in Luxembourg.
